Traditionally, a Mai Tai is not made with pineapple. At Cocktail Lab, we've made a conscious decision to add it. The pineapple provides a softer, rounder, and more tropical character, without compromising the strength of the rum. In combination with almond, it creates a full, warm flavour, while the lime keeps the cocktail fresh and lively. This way, it remains a recognisable Mai Tai, but with its own signature that is perfectly suited for home use.
You don't need to mix or measure anything yourself. Just give it a shake with ice and pour to serve a bar-quality Mai Tai at home, consistently tasty every time.

1. Grab a shake cup, measuring cup and strainer.
2. Fill the shake cup with ice.
3. Add 100 ml of Mai Tai to the shaker.
4. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
5. Use the strainer when pouring into a cocktail glass.
Pour your shake cup all the way out for the nicest foam layer.
6. Garnish the Mai Tai cocktail with fresh mint or a dried orange slice; this pairs very well with the spicy almond flavour.

De Mai Tai werd in de jaren 1940 gecreëerd door Victor J. Bergeron, better known as Trader Vic, in California. His goal was to create a cocktail that would capture the atmosphere and flavours of tropical islands in one glass.
The name Mai Tai is derived from the Tahitian word maita’i, meaning good. According to legend, one of the first tasters exclaimed “Mai Tai roa ae”, which translates roughly to extremely good.
The cocktail grew to become the very emblem of tiki culture and remains one of the most iconic and best-selling tropical rum cocktails in the world today.
